Chuppah (Huppa, Choppot, Huppot)
A chuppah is a Jewish wedding tradition that symbolizes the couple's
new home. The silk canopy is held up on four poles by friends and family,
symbolizing the support of the community that is required for a successful
marriage. A handmade chuppah adds a special touch to the ceremony, and
can become a bed canopy or wall hanging in the couple's new home.
A chuppah can be made to your specifications. It often matches the bride's
flowers or the ketubah (an illustrated Jewish marriage certificate). Today
even non-denominational weddings have begun to use the chuppah because
of its powerful symbolism.
I often meet with future couples to learn about them and their interests.
Together we have created chuppas that beautifully convey images of symbols,
places and times that are precious to them. A custom made chuppah is a
wonderful way to start a family tradition.
Prices range from $295 - $500 depending on the level of work. Two yards of silk ribbon are included for tying the chuppah. Colors are your choice. Poles not included..
